About us
BIOSYNEX TECHNOLOGIES (BSX TECH) is a Berlin-based German subsidiary of Biosynex SA, based in Illkirch-Graffenstaden (France). Originally founded in 2005 as opTricon - Development Company for optical Technologies by Lutz Melchior and Volker Plickert, the company became part of the Biosynex family in November 2023. Focus of activities is the development, production and marketing of customized reading devices for the evaluation of immunological rapid tests. Initially started as a service provider for the development of opto-electronic systems, the company today focuses on the OEM business for easy-to-use readers and software solutions as customer-specific products.
Mission
As a Center of Excellence for optical Technologies, we offer unique know-how from this technological area, combined with the experience and competence of more than 30 years of work in industry. Based on many years of experience in in-vitro diagnostics, we supply our customers with solutions for many other application areas of lateral flow technology such as the food industry, veterinary medicine, environmental technology and forensics.
Made in Germany - all products are developed and manufactured in Germany. High quality standards and a trusting partnership with our customers and suppliers are the basis for the success of our work.
Management
Lutz Melchior
Managing Director
Lutz Melchior studied Electronics Technology and Biomedical Technology at the Technical University of Dresden. In 1990 he started his professional career as a design engineer for HF measurement technology at Messelektronik Berlin GmbH. From 1992 he worked as a development engineer for fiber optic components and modules in the field of fiber optic technology at Siemens AG and Infineon Technologies AG. He held functions as a developer, team and project manager. In 2005, together with Volker Plickert, he founded the opTricon Development Company for optical Technologies GmbH based in Berlin-Adlershof. Together the two founders developed the company as managing partners, led it through several rounds of financing and in 2018 to a successful sale to Chembio Diagnostic Systems, Inc. Currently, the company belongs to the Biosynex group. As the managing director of BIOSYNEX TECHNOLOGIES GmbH, which emerged from opTricon, the focus of his work is business development, sales & marketing and operations.
Lutz Melchior is the inventor and co-inventor in numerous patents on optical assembly and connection technology.

PolyPhotonics Berlin: Great in Optics – Small in Size
Eleven regional companies and three research institutions have come together in the “PolyPhotonics Berlin” association emerged from the BMBF innovation initiative “Company Region”.
